New Assessments Help Families Talk About Aging in Place

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Resilient Life Technologies launches two online tools to help older adults and their families evaluate home readiness, technology, safety and independence while they still have choices.

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. — August 13, 2026 — Resilient Life Technologies has launched two new online assessments designed to help older adults and their families better understand how prepared they are to support safe, independent living at home.

The Aging in Place Assessment and Family Technology Readiness Assessment give families — especially adult children coordinating care from a distance — a structured way to evaluate issues that are often discussed only after a fall, hospitalization or other health event forces the conversation.

“Most families want their parents — or themselves — to remain independent for as long as possible,” said Bob Chamberlain, founder of Resilient Life Technologies and a Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist (CAPS). “The challenge is knowing what to look at and where to begin. Aging in place isn’t simply about grab bars or remodeling. It involves the home, health, technology, safety, mobility, family support and the ability to adapt as circumstances change.”

That perspective comes from direct, real-world experience rather than theory alone. Chamberlain has built “Homes of Intention,” residences designed around universal accessibility, and has conducted in-home Aging in Place Assessments directly with families. Chamberlain and his partner Marlin Wilton have also installed technology solutions for disabled veterans and individuals with traumatic injuries and medical conditions, in both residential homes and healthcare facilities — work that informs how the assessments evaluate readiness in the real world, not just on paper.

Two Different Ways to Evaluate Readiness

The Aging in Place Assessment takes a broad look at the factors that can affect a person’s ability to remain safely and successfully in their home over time. Rather than focusing solely on physical modifications, the assessment helps identify strengths, potential vulnerabilities and areas that may deserve greater attention.

The Family Technology Readiness Assessment focuses specifically on whether technology is being effectively used to support independence, communication, safety and family coordination. It evaluates readiness across five levels of technology — Basic, Connected, Safety & Monitoring, Assistive & Health, and Coordinated & Intelligent — helping families understand where they stand today and what capabilities they may want to consider as needs change.

Each assessment takes about 15–20 minutes to complete online and provides families with a personalized report intended to turn a complicated subject into practical areas for discussion and action. Families can also learn more about the assessments and Resilient Life Technologies’ broader approach without taking an assessment right away.

Helping Families Start Before There Is a Crisis

Chamberlain believes one of the biggest challenges surrounding aging in place is that families often wait too long to begin planning.

“We understand these issues aren’t normally top of mind until something happens,” Chamberlain said. “Then confusion and acts of desperation are typically the order of the day. The good news is the assessments are designed to support being proactive, and in doing so, issues can often be prevented or minimized, and quality of life and peace of mind can be improved. We don’t profess to have all the answers — new solutions pop up every day — but the assessments and the book can be a great starting place.”

The assessments complement Chamberlain’s book, The Resilient Life Guide: Aging Smarter, Living Stronger, which explores a broader approach to preparing for longevity, independence and the changing needs that can accompany aging.

Together, the book and assessments give families different ways to begin the aging-in-place conversation depending on their situation — whether that’s a self-guided first step or a deeper planning process alongside a professional.
